Seat height in DX Patrol

Hi Errol - my wife is also a trifle vertically challenged and refuse to drive off road where she can't see adequately over the bonnet. I, and I suspect many others, would be interested in hearing how you did the seat lift of 40mm.

Easy to do Pete . First , get some 40x40 or if you like 50x50 square tube . You will need about 200mm . Next , some 12x20 flat bar , again 150 should do it . Measure in on flat bar 15mm in centre , drill hole same size as seat bolt , measure 45mm (or 55mm) down flat , drill hole . Cut 15mm from second hole . Round of one end and ariss edges of other end . Times 2 . Next , take square tube cut 100mm off . Measure 20mm from each end and cut side out of tube . Try to leave the rolled edges if you can . Mark center at top and drill a hole right through top and bottem . Again , same size as bolts . Take another bolt same size but shorter and weld into place with bolt head inside tube threads faceing upwards .Times 2 . You will need 2 more bolts for the frount flat bars also . Then its just a matter of unbolting the seat , lose'le bolt in the frount flat bars , then fit the square tube's in place and replace the bolts through the hole in side of tube into flour . This part is not easy to do as there is not much room to move a spanner . The seat should already be siting on the bolts you welded in place , so add nuts and washers and tighten all bolts . Be a good idea to paint them first befor fiting . It's a bit unnearving at first when first sit in seat again at new high't , but you soon get over that . Hope this helps Errol

Have been flat out for past six months finishing my new book, which I hope to have out by September.

Re OKA, yes I'm finally selling it. It's been a remarkably reliable machine and has me taken across the centre via the Tanami and Alice to Sth Qld and NSW no less than eight times. I did a complete front end rebuild about a year ago but apart from that all it has needed is new shock absorber rubber bushes every second year, regular oil and filter changes, and a couple of sets of tyres.

It's probably the lightest fully-equipped OKA around. I had the entire interior built (by Fread Black at Out of Town 4WD in Barnsly NSW)) in white poweder-coated aluminium. This saved about 400 kg so the whole truck with 400 litre diesel tanks (Perth to Broome with half a tank to spare), 200 litres of water, twin spare wheels, 12,000 lb winch - weighs about 5.2 tonnes. I'll be putting a CD together when I start to advertise it in two/three
months.

Oh yes! - the Patrol. What I dearly love is a 79-series turbo-diesel Troopy with Nissan transmission, but cannot have everything. I already have a 2000 model 78-series Troopy, but feel the Nissan has stronger transmission.

Briefly its in top condition mechanically, but its been put together to use so its not a show pony. Has Detroit rear locker, ARB Air locker at front, 12,000 lb winch, 380 litre fuel tanks, twin spares ( four tyres are brand new). Very light for a fully set up OKA.
